The first part of October. Laurie and I are spending the week at a place in the woods – camp cabins, fishing ponds, fireplaces…I’m looking forward to a retreat!
I’m not sure who said it, but they talked about how a retreat – from a spiritual perspective - is really an advance. Militarily, that might not make sense, but, spiritually it does. Leonard Sweet, Christian author and speaker, has developed what he calls Advance Centers where Christians can go and reconnect with God. Men sometimes aren’t very good at retreating. It’s not a part of our DNA. In our minds – to retreat is to give up or back off. Society around us works hard to mold and make us into their definition of men, but, if we look at the most manly man ever, Jesus Christ, who understood the need to back off, and get away, and re-energize… My hope is that you will regularly take time ( an hour here, a day there, a week) to back off from the demands of life – to relax, regroup, reconnect – understanding that to do so advances you in your spiritual walk and makes you stronger and more prepared to the spiritual battles that must be fought by godly men! And who knows – maybe I’ll catch a big bass or catfish out of one of those fishing ponds! Grace and Peace! Next MEN’S BREAKFAST, Saturday, October 16th, 8:00 a.m. , in Heritage Hall. Put it on your calendar! Bring a FRIEND!
